Building for the future

The Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP) is not only the biggest knowledge cluster in the Netherlands in the field of Life Sciences & Health, it also has a high reputation internationally. The clustering of top-level teaching, research, healthcare and businesses brings students, researchers and business people from all parts of the world to Leiden, city of knowledge. The Leiden Bio Science Park houses the largest number of bioscience start-ups in the Netherlands, among them a range of multinationals and internationally recognised research institutes. The number of life sciences companies and institutions is growing rapidly. The park currently has 180 companies and institutions, with more than 18,000 employees, a number that is expected to increase to around 27,000 by 2025.
The presence of a number of further education institutions and several University faculties in the local area means that thousands of students give the area a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

The park covers around 110 hectares. There is room for expansion (up to some 330,000 m2) within the park for life sciences and health-related business activities, offices and domestic housing.
